Where in the Wonderful World is Hubl?
The Results

8th September 2023

Throughout June and July 2023, team Hublsoft embarked on a tough challenge. A challenge that would encourage everyone to get moving and boost our collective mental wellbeing, while raising money for our chosen charity partners.

"Without Where in the World is Hubl? I wouldn't have pushed myself to exercise consistently."

The challenge

This year we raced against the clock to travel virtually from Alexandria, Egypt, to our Head Office in York, UK, an epic journey of over 13,000km. Travel by any form of exercise was the name of the game, meaning the team could walk, cycle, run, work out or swim; all modes of physical activity contributed to getting us all safely back home. The route this year was varied, taking in scenes from the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World, followed by a tour of some of Europe’s most iconic flower fields, and then back to York HQ via a 5-nations home sprint, visiting some majestic castles as we went. The routes were chosen by the team and our amazing charity partners were chosen by the team as well; Macmillan Cancer Support, St Leonard's Hospice and Southmead Hospital Charity.

How did we do?

The two months earmarked for our challenge were very different on the weather spectrum. June was hot, and July was wet, both of which could have thrown significant spanners in the works. But it didn't deter anyone from the team from making fantastic contributions to our overall goal.

We’ve seen individuals pushing themselves out of their comfort zones and tackling activities and sports that had perhaps lain dormant for some years. The team challenge gave some the impetus to set personal goals, from scaling the gruelling Tan Hill cycle climb to multiple running-based challenges to incorporating a daily walk into their routine, and it really did push us to the limits. But we didn't just want to test our team physically. As we journeyed along the route, we added in some head-scratching riddles and puzzles and set thought-provoking photography challenges, all earning extra money to go towards our three charities.

"The riddles and puzzles are great for a brain warm-up in the day"

The final furlong was incredibly nail-biting. The first take on the morning of 1st August was that we still had 6.2km to go. The sense of disappointment that we had fallen so incredibly close was tangible, but fortunately, some team members had not yet managed to upload their activity from 31st July. Once the apps had synced successfully, it pushed us over the line, phew what a relief. Well done to the whole team who contributed, and a massive achievement for the whole of Hublsoft!  We are proud to say that our efforts have been able to raise an incredible £1,000 across our three partner charities, Macmillan Cancer Support, St Leonard's Hospice and Southmead Hospital Charity, and we’re already excited about where we can take our Where in the World is Hubl challenge in 2024.

"Where in the World is Hubl? is such a great challenge. It has pushed me to take on new challenges and reach new levels that I never thought I would be able to achieve. It has significantly boosted both my physical and mental wellbeing."
